Second reader's comments:
Probably the most interesting cross-curricular study I ever read in the form of a degree work. The authoress is widely experienced in the topic of applying drama techniques in English language teaching and teacher training. The idea of connecting literature in the English language classroom to performing skills (including the performance of a theatre play) is a curricular innovation (the merits of László Katona, the director) and the contribution of the group and the experiences of the members of the group as presented by the authoress are very convincing. The candidate is not only conscious but also knowledgeable about the selection of the right qualitative methods in which – in addition to the recommendations borrowed from specialized literature – she could use her similar experiences in the Netherlands. Remarkably good theoretical thesis, elaborated research plan, detailed and useful appendices make the dissertation complete. With proper proofreading the candidate could have avoided formal mistakes like repeating of the same passage twice on p. 5., or sentences like the following: “Bécsy Tamás who is concerned with the ontology of theatre plays is written by Bécsy Tamás” (p.9.). In addition to the numerous minor errors the wrong use of the word ‘theatre’ recurs (that is theatre in most cases is still a countable noun in English but it is abstract when we speak of the genre). In constructions like ‘theatre plays’ the singular is ‘a theatre play’ in which the indefinite article obviously refers to play, and theatre serves as an adjective. These minor pitfalls are insignificant as the dissertation has got a vivid and attractive style and good language quality.
